You make the call: See above video. Throughout the season when coaches or officials bring plays to my attention, I'll try to use them as teaching moments for all of us to make sure we get plays right. That's really our goal, isn't it? I'm not doing this to point out correct or incorrect calls or to embarrass anyone. If I could figure out how to blur out faces, I would do that so no one knows who's making the calls. However, i think it's pretty relevant to what we're doing when we can see each other making good and bad calls and learn from them for our own game.
The Ideal Official:
Notices everything but is seldom noticed; has resourcefulness and initiative; has dignity of voice and manner but with no suggestion of pompousness; is considerate and courteous without sacrificing firmness; can control the players effectively and understandingly; has constant concern for the physical welfare of the players; cooperates fully with other officials; is physically able to be and is in the right place at the right time; knows what the rules say and what the rules mean.
Evaluations and Observations. If you are lucky enough to have been observed this season, you'll start to see film and observation documents trickle out. I'm sending them out as I receive them. This is an opportunity to be reflective and IMPROVE yourselves. We are only doing this to make better officials, not have you embarrassed.
January Meeting. Mark your calendars for Sunday, January 15 at 3pm in our normal classroom. We will have snacks and refreshments, but not a full meal.
Video/Film Review. I have access to Conway, St. James, Socastee, North Myrtle Beach, Carolina Forest, Myrtle Beach, Andrews, Waccamaw, Carvers Bay and Georgetown video. I can probably get access to more, but I just haven't asked. If you're ever interested in watching yourself on film, please let me know. I also get Carolina Forest and Socastee JV films.
